Born in Casablanca, Selma Bargach studied art and the experimental cinema in the Sorbonne. She carried out her first short films into super 8 and at the same time she took part in the creation of a resource centre and research on arts of the Maghreb. She obtained her doctorate on the subject of the "statute and the role of the woman in the Moroccan cinema". Back to Morocco, she is back first of all an assistant director with a large number of Moroccan and foreign directors. Later, she carried out short films of fiction. Her first full-length film "the 5th string" has been selected in several festivals in the world and obtained a lot of prizes. She was vice president of the URAM - Union of Moroccan film directors.
